So Glad To Be Podcasting

If this can be called podcasting.

It started with this post at TechCrunch: Google Integrates Third-Party Web Apps More Deeply Into Google Drive.

I was reading it on my phone this morning, and I got excited. I fired up my laptop, and went to Google Drive and quickly integrated a whole bunch of apps. I created a floor plan using FloorPlanner. And I was feeling good about being able to edit video in Google Drive. Then I happened upon audio.

On second try I was able to use an app that feels like podcasting. I record my talk on the phone, save it over to Google Drive, from there I edited it with TwistedWave, the app on Google Drive, which then allowed me to share it to SoundCloud, which allowed me to embed it to my blog, this blog.

For the longest time video has felt easier than audio. I guess the music industry casts a jaundiced look upon the landscape. And so app developers stay away in fear. But I have just wanted to be able to record and share my own voice with the ease I can share words I type.

Hint: this should be a simple feature in Blogger's mobile app.

And so, welcome to this podcast, if it can be called that: Social Media Week Is Upon Us.

A Good Camera App

I have been on the lookout for a good camera app for my phone. I already have Instagram, and a free one and a paid one. I erroneously thought an app would increase my phone's zoom capacity. That does not seem to be the case. Not being able to zoom in from far seriously limits your ability to take good pictures.

A Stealing Kind Of App

For all intents and purposes your mobile operating system should be more infected than Windows. If it is not it is because the bad guys simply have not had the time to zero in.

There is much more room for mischief in the mobile space.

Google Approves an App that Steals All Your Data
an app that stealthily steals personal data such as photos and contacts ..... Google needs to improve both its app-scanning system and its Android operating system. ...... SMS Bloxor was finally pulled from the store after the researchers uploaded a version that continuously sent all the data from a device back to the app's creators, without ever stopping. ..... app stores will soon be subject to significant criminal efforts .... the coming wave. ..... most examples of mobile malware consist of targeted attacks against individuals, such as CEOs that might have access to valuable corporate data. "Round the corner is going to be some more widespread catastrophe that's could hit tens of thousands or millions of users."

The Browser Will Rule The Mobile Web As Well

HTML5 video iconImage via WikipediaApps are makeshift. It's like when the bridge collapses, the army puts in place a temporary suspension bridge until the bridge is rebuilt, or at least that is what I saw done in Nepal. Wireless broadband is not where it needs to be, which is everywhere. HTML5 is not here yet.

I Am A Browser Bigot

MacWorld Conference & Expo 2007 - San Francisc...Image via WikipediaI have called Steve Jobs a Pied Piper at this blog several times before. I mean, the guy goes ahead and does iPhone apps.
Fred Wilson: HTML5 Mobile Apps: They looked and worked exactly like their mobile app counterparts.... you could cache all the elements, including the database, on the phone and deliver an offline experience in HTML5 in the browser .... I've accepted the mobile app paradigm as something we will be living with for the next five years.
But I do realize that HTML 5 is not here yet. Universal wireless broadband is not here yet. And that begets the swamp that begets the mosquitoes: iPhone apps.
