When I Got Teary Eyed

For the most part I have tried to be philosophical, one Buddhist to another. He died earlier than he needed to, sure. But there was a sense of completion to his life's work. It is like he launched a dozen Apple size startups.

Ever since I got the news I have felt this tremendous hunger to learn more details about his life, and I have scoured the web for the same, sort of knowing it would be hard for anyone to surprise me with new details.

Readings have felt like refreshing memories, not revelations. I have read up on the guy over the years.

And then this afternoon it happened. Someone posted pictures of the Apple store at Central Park's southeast corner on Facebook, and my eyes went wet. I saw the glaze, and felt the warmth from the wet. But then I quickly recomposed myself.

I never made peace with the premium price on the Apple products, I never bought one. And I am too much of a pirate to ever have wanted to belong to the Apple club. That is groupthink! Google with its free to use search engine speaks to me. That is the price that is right. I am a Google fanboy.

(2) The guy should never have left Apple in 1984. The history of the PC might have been different. But then that was a multi-dimensional event. I don't even have all the facts.

(3) What's up with launching the iPhone on one carrier?

(4) What's up with native apps? I am a HTML5 kind of guy.

(5) What's up with not jumping onto 4G for the iPhone?

(6) What's up with integrating with Twitter instead of Facebook? Facebook does social way better than Twitter.

(7) Does the Chrome browser operate different on a Mac? I am not so sure. Almost all of the action for me is on the Chrome browser. And I like my screen size big. And I like my keyboard physical. I never simply read. If I am not blogging, I am commenting, if I am not commenting, I am tweeting. Call me a power user. That is a crown.

Apple for a few weeks was the most valued company in the world. A company approaching 400 billion in market cap has arrived. That is a navy like number. And, yet, Steve Jobs stayed a pirate through and through. His first and last products were both built for the consumer.

There are enterprise imitations of Facebook, but there are no enterprise imitations of the iPhone or the iPad. Steve Jobs create the iPhone and the iPad for the masses and those masses took over the corporate world on his behalf. If the CIOs of fatass companies were ever blindsided, it was by Steve Jobs.

I find that to be remarkable.

The life-work balance in the information age means you are the same person at work and elsewhere. You tap on the same iPhone at work as you do on vacation.

Played Farmville After Long Months

Anu Shukla could not understand. She thought maybe my blogging stole me from Farmville. My conspiracy theory was that Mark Pincus was personally punishing me for having taken credit for an idea.

I tried the game on a Mac at an Apple store. Last year. Still not loading. Was that a Flash/Apple thing? I don't know.

Anyways, my Chrome Notebook did not arrive, and recently I bought myself a new computer, a PC, after having tried a Mac for a few weeks: I liked it. But if all you need is a browser almost all the time, the PC works just fine. And costs matter. Sam Walton is my hero.

That Thing Between The PC And The Smartphone

iPad with on display keyboardImage via WikipediaSteve Jobs, when he unveiled the iPad, claimed that the iPad was that thing between the PC and the smartphone. He famously called the PC the truck and the iPad the car. I disagreed. I did not think, I don't think the iPad is that thing between the PC and the smartphone. It is one of the things in that space, but the definitive device between the PC and the smartphone has not arrived yet. Whatever it is, it will try to render both the PC and the smartphone unnecessary.
Apple Insider: Apple component allocations point to new form factor sub-notebook: Activity within Apple's supply chain throughout the better part of 2010 has shown signs that the Mac maker is gearing up to introduce a new notebook that doesn't fit into any of its existing hardware designs ...... d a new MacBook Air .... "true" multi-touch Macs.
Something that is not as small as the smartphone, but approaches it in weight would be nice. The screen has to be decent size. You should be able to make and receive calls. There has to be the webcam option. Could you fit a camera into it?

But then major advances in the software behind the keyboard have made the tablet more appealing. If you can type away on the tablet like on a netbook, I mean.

And in the mean time Apple's shares keep getting pricier. Steve Jobs is on a roll.

Proves my point. This guy was too dumb to even have contemplated firing Steve Jobs. You have to at least be in Steve Jobs' league to have the option to make a decision like that. Sculley and other scums cost Apple a full decade and more.
