Ingress: New Scanner: Version 1.30.2 Update

Being able to see how many keys you have to a portal before you link to it is great. I have over 30 portals that I like to have at least one key of. But I also want to link and field - the most fun part of the game.

I think this scanner favors agents who walk to agents who drive around in cars. That is also a plus. The car advantage might have been diminished. If Ingress could turn America into a walking nation, that would be trillions in health care savings. That alone would make the game worth it. I was not overweight when I started playing, but I have lost weight playing. That is a good thing. My waistline is slimmer. Walking is the best aspect of the game. I was already a walking maniac before the game. Now I am even more so.

What they have not worked on is the COMM. Unless they fundamentally rework the COMM the app is not tremendously helping the social aspects of the game. The COMM is currently the weak link in the chain.

My only bigger gripe than the COMM is that Niantic is not approving portals fast enough. Unless New York City has 10 times more portals it can not accommodate its current batch of players, let alone the expected five times increase in player numbers. I would like to attempt complex fielding, but that is currently not possible. Please approve my 1,000 portal submissions already.

Ingress: Home Territory

My definition of a home territory is one where the majority of portals are your submissions. Which means just because you live in a territory does not mean that is your home territory. And it is perfectly okay to have a small home territory. So if you have managed to put together a cluster of 30 portals 20 of which are your submissions then that is your home territory. That might lead to a lot of gerrymandering, and that's okay.

A home territory might or might not be an entire neighborhood. A home territory might cover multiple neighborhoods.

Ideally you carry a key to every portal in your home territory so you can remote recharge as necessary. That also liberates you in that you can move out and about the city without losing your home territory portals to decay or easy capture because the XM level went below 50% after a few days.

Ever since I left timtomhuze behind like so much exhaust fume my primary focus has been to build my home territory. That would be mostly Jackson Heights, but it also spills over into Woodside. Heck, I have made portal submissions all over Queens, from Flushing to Astoria to Long Island City. I must have made 1,000 portal submissions by now with a few hundred more to go. My next wave of focus is along the 7 train line on both sides of the track. I covered 74th Street to 82nd Street yesterday.

A side project for me is to become the top blue agent in NYC as measured by AP.

Then I will have space to start building my team - The Squad - in earnest.

Home territory building is a ton of fun. It beats the excitement of attending L8 farm events. Fact be noted I have never lacked for L8 ammo since I left timtomhuze behind like so much exhaust fume. I also have rediscovered the delight of using all levels of ammo from L1 to L8.

Ingress: State Of The Game: New York City (2)

It is fair to say the green team right now dominates Manhattan. Only a few week back they were at 50% of the territory. Now they are past 50 and still have momentum. Columbia University is solid blue, it is home territory to the top blue agent in the city. Upper West Side is also solid blue. It is home territory to the top attack agent on the blue side. But blue is shaky everywhere else on the island. I believe the green team is approaching 60% of the island by now. That is not worrying. What is worrying is they still have momentum.

When that happens there is the spillover effect. They start pouring out into Queens, Brooklyn, New Jersey perhaps. Already Kogent is talking about New Jersey on the All COMM. Manhattan is not enough territory. They are still hungry. I don't see a slowdown on their side.

West Village has become the green Bayonne. It is home to a permanent L7 farm for the green team. Only Bayonne has many fewer agents harvesting the goodies.

Queens used to be solid blue. By now it is 50-50. Downtown Brooklyn was always fiercely contested, as it is now. But southern Brooklyn is solid blue. Staten Island continues to be JPNasty1 territory: solid blue, the most unchanged part of the city for the game.

When I had a fallout with the current organized team in the city the blue team owned 66% of the city. As long as that team will focus their energies on faction chat in engaging in personal attacks on me, the other side will keep their momentum. If they still have momentum at owning 60% of Manhattan, they still have ground to cover in Queens and Brooklyn, and New Jersey is all open to crack. Arbitrage wants to buy a subway pass, Kogent wants a pass for PATH. The East Village and West Village are no longer enough for them and they are still hungry.

New Jersey's strength came from the numerous L8 farm events that NYC agents organized there. But by now New Jersey is self sufficient. It does not need NYC agents to stay strong. But I would still worry about Kogent.

Derp by now has his own private farm. It is the most efficient farm in the city right now: small and tight.

Forest Hills in Queens is one green 30 portal L8 farm in Jackson Heights taken to burnout away from being wiped out. Astoria, Flushing and Forest Hills all depend on Jackson Heights, the top Ingress destination in the borough by now.

Bronx is 50-50 like it was months ago. Not much change there.

rmazzara has done a good job of turning Long Island over 50% blue, it used to be almost 70% green, and he is not from Long Island. That change goes unnoticed. He might be the top blue agent in the city in terms of the sheer number of hours he puts into the game. Frankly, the number of hours he puts is scary to me. Maybe he is on Niantic's payroll.

What could the blue team do? What are the options?

(1) Make a team decision to stop personal attacks on me and my new, small team.
(2) The idea of me building a team is not alarming. And it is not at cross purposes. And the credit does not go to me. There are only two global teams possible. That is just the way the game has been designed.
(3) My team - The Squad - could sit on top of the organized team that exists already. The existing team was able to go to 66% of the territory in the city. Together perhaps we can go past 70% if we do it right.

Otherwise the green team could carry this current momentum for two more months at least.

Ingress: That Dosa Thang!

Today was supposed to be the Inter Faction Jackson Dosa Interaction, src's brainchild. But my Co-Host chickened out! SRC is like, tomhuze says you revealed the NYC Resistance secrets through code heavy photographs you shared publicly on Google Plus, and so I can no longer talk to you!

Part of the plan was that both src and I would take about five minutes each to make fun of as many agents in the city as possible. If you deprive me the opportunity to do so at a Dosa place, I am going to do it at a blog post, and so here goes.

Mutex yesterday went to a mental hospital (true story) to make portal submissions. What makes Mutex think derp is not going to end up at a mental hospital?

As one of the top agents of the global Resistance, I truly appreciate what tomhuze and rmazzara do for Bedstuy Resistance and College Point Resistance respectively. That low level stuff is also important.

Kimon finally got his long coveted job as the Night Watchman for the Grant's Tomb. He will no longer teach.

I have never seen KeyserJoze in person.

samps is out there on the Upper West Side, or rather Upper Upper West Side.

exussum owns some green portals in Jackson Heights. chicory just pays rent on them.

Henrock was last seen in Long Island City. Wait, Corona. Wait, Astoria. Wait, Flushing. Wait, Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Wait, Forest Hills. Wait, Elmhurst. .... Henrock was last seen riding a bus.

No, mugu does not live in Williamsburg, he just farms there.

Das is so deeply biased against Astoria and Queens in general that when he shows up in Astoria (two times) and the Flushing Meadows Corona Park (one time) he makes news.

kogent and Muevelo have been talking.

MeyB will finally capture the American Natural History Museum, maybe.

putch pushed lighthouse0 into the East River. It was accidental.

DrOctagon has been getting on Henrock's nerves.

AbuSalem is on vacation, hence the Level 5 green portals in Long Island City that used to always be Level 7!

And you thought R2Detour was a human being.

I bet you mispronounce sma. It is NOT s-m-a!

314159265358979 is half Indian like me. But his Pakistani half battles with my Nepali half! That confuses exussum.

TIM3PORT went to New Jersey, to return another day. The first agent to have a baby on the COMM!

evondosha knows what mugu's handle means. It is an inside joke.

PaulineParker and MissParker stole each other's name. It does not help that both are not on the same team.

Gladly QueensTiger and BronxLion are on the same team. Or you could only imagine.

RedJava is rumored to be red hot! She is supposedly into The Art Of War.

MzDemeanor knows how to carry herself.

slomar took five hours to sweep through Forest Hills. He is slow like that. Kruxoli on the other than can sweep in four hours 60 minutes! And both want L8 farms there!

JPNasty1 does the Ingress version of masturbation. He plays on all of Staten Island all by himself, all weekend long!

Arbitrage arbitrarily RSVPd for the Dosa event before he realized it was in, wait, is it in Queens! I am not going THERE!

I don't claim to know district. He claims otherwise.

Mexecutioner, you guessed it, killed a few agents on his last mission in Mexico.

Gellean would be that white haired white guy who cusses in Spanish. He likes to retire from the game every few weeks.

WW4 thinks Ingress will give him World War IV. Redneck!

Sonik was last seen in Bayonne. If anyone knows of his whereabouts please call the following number.

Eck has been eeking out ingressing far out on Long Island. He howls every now and then.

BeaKay organized a Flash event.

Hightwr is tall, so is TinyA.

Avumede claims he doesn't "care" about the blue portals around him.

New York City

A 20 segment panoramic image of the New York M...Image via WikipediaSomebody from the tech fraternity/sorority has to do it at some point. If you think about it Bloomberg is also a member.

This Guy Jack Dorsey

Jack Dorsey has gone on record saying his dream job is to become Mayor of New York City. More than being Chairperson of Twitter or CEO of Square, he wants to become Mayor. I don't blame him. There are about 50 billionaires in the city, I know the name of only one of them.
